Rocky vs. Hannity

The “debate” is over (I’ve been watching it via live stream),and it is highly clear that Rocky had the most rational and factual presentation.  Hannity did nothing but attack Rocky and progressives and never once did he address the accuracy of Rocky’s information presented.  His entire “rebuttal” to Rocky’s presentation was lame and not in defense AT ALL!  He kept linking the Iraq situation back to the 911 terrorist attack and kept bringing up Clinton’s mistakes in his presidency (huh?!?).  Hannity continually resorted to name calling and insults. Rocky did not.  Rocky did not mention Hannity once during his initial presenation.  He presented the facts.  During the question answer time, Hannity consistently evade the questons.  Rocky confronted the questions by providing answers.

Hannity was very nationalistic in his approach.  Rocky was very humanistic and global in his approach.  It was lucidly apparent who was the more concerned about humanity.

I do not have a link yet to the video of the “debate”, but watch for information at One Utah and here.

Rocky, you rock!  Thank you for standing up and giving an example of gracious and courteous behavior, not to mention a well organized factual and substantiated presentation on the war crimes committed by the Bush administration.

IMPEACH rally

About 100 people turned out for the IMPEACH rally in Salt Lake yesterday.  A small, but energetic and attentive crowd.  Here are photos and news items.  I will be posting the speeches of the speakers soon.

Rally Called for Cheney’s Impeachment
April 28th, 2007 @ 5:30pm

(KSL News) — A group of Utahns rallied today, calling for the impeachment of the Bush administration.

The rally in Salt Lake City coincides with many nation-wide demanding Congress impeach Vice President Dick Cheney.

The group also asked people to sign a petition, which will be sent to Utah Senators.

Earlier this week, Ohio Democrat Dennis Kucinich filed articles against the Vice President. He says Cheney manipulated and fabricated information about weapons of mass destruction in order to justify the war in Iraq.

Earth Jam 2007

The weather was overcast, showery, and the day became increasingly colder, but it was still a great Earth Day in Salt Lake City. We had fun operating the Kiddie Village. Pom Poms Not Bomb Bombs performed too!

Red-letter week buoys Utah Greens
By Lee Benson
Deseret Morning News

Eileen McCabe is trying hard. She really is.
But it’s obvious she hasn’t had much practice at this sort of thing.
I’m talking about celebrating.
Eileen is a card-carrying member of the Green Party, one of two people in Utah assigned as a delegate to the national party, and she and her Green peers have just gone through one terrific week.
First there was the announcement from the federal government that it was abandoning its plans to detonate the Divine Strake explosion upwind in Nevada — something the Desert Greens, which is what Green Party members in Utah call themselves, have been laboriously campaigning for.
Next there was Sunday night’s Academy Awards, where Al Gore’s documentary about global warming, “An Inconvenient Truth,” won two Oscars.
And finally, as a kind of organic cherry on top, there was Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman’s announcement this week of his support for Utah farmers and the development of renewable energy in Utah.
Right now, it sure is great to be green.
Eileen knows this, and as she takes a break from her day job in Murray for a short interview with the media, meaning me, she says so with an emphatically redundant, “Oh it’s great, it’s great.”
But that’s it. There are no back flips, no gushing speeches, no Toyota hybrid jumps, no plans for a big victory bash.
The best Eileen can do is speculate that when she and her fellow Greens next get together in person — after Thursday’s regular anti-war vigil in front of the Federal Building in downtown Salt Lake perhaps — they might stop long enough for a toast with union-made beer.
“We’re really into union-made beer,” she explains. “The only one I know of is Pabst Blue Ribbon, so we’ll probably get together with some Pabst Blue Ribbon and toss back a few.”
But beyond that, no plans other than to keep on keeping on.
“Honestly, we’re not used to this,” she says, meaning the winning.
Then she quickly adds, “And the battle might be over, but the war isn’t.”
“An Inconvenient Truth” may have won an Oscar, but lots of people are still driving SUVs. Divine Strake may have been cancelled, but the federal nuclear program is still going strong. And then there’s that situation in Iraq.
“If they cancelled the (nuclear) program and ended the war in Iraq and didn’t start one with Iran,” says Eileen, “then maybe we’d take the week off.”
And Pabst Blue Ribbon wouldn’t know what hit it.

Green Party State of the Union Response – Nan Garrett

This is my green sister, Nan Garrett, who was going to run for President in 2008 but had to choose between her job and campaigning. Survival won.

Here is her Green Party respsonse to the State of the Union:

Zool and Condi

I am a member of the Green Party of the United States Peace Action Committee. One of our members, “zool”, attended the Senate Foreign Relations committee hearing with Condi Rice. and displayed a sign that said “More Lies” during the hearing. It was also printed in The Washington Post on page A14 in the continuation of the Friday, January 12 cover story on the hearing.

Here, zool is seen between Gael Murphy of Code Pink and members of Rice’s security staff. Seated directly behind Secretary Rice , zool repeatedly displayed signs: “Old Lies”, “New Lies”, “More Lies”, “Still Lying”, “Stop Lying”, “Stop War”. After an hour and a half, zool was dragged out of the hearing room by Capitol Police in a posture of nonviolent civil disobedience. zool was detained only briefly, as Chairman Biden declined to have him arrested.

Go zool!

Busy Times – Part 2

I have been busy working on the website for a Green Party Presidential Candidate. She has not officially announced yet but is expected to do so soon. Our team is in its beginning stages of planning the campaign. There are exciting times ahead.

I have completed setting up the website. There is still a lot of development to do, but the framework is there.

I am excited to be part of this campaign and will post here when it is launched.

I received my copy of the Fall 2006 The Green Pages  the national newspaper of theGreen Party of the United States.

I and others are  highlighted in the feature article, “The party gatehrs at Tucson:  Delegates report increased unity at national annual conference”, by Dave McCorquodale of the Green Party of Delaware.

The article is about delegtes’ perspectives on the Tucson meeting and higlights quotes from a number of delegates.  My quote is a highlighted boxed quote in the middle of the article:
As alwasy I walk away from the annual event invigorated, educated and excited about being part of hte Green Party.

The article briefly touches on the various activities of the national meeting, inlcuding reports of the various committees.
