Stop The Nuclear Bailout – NukeFree.org – Musicans Take a Stand!

Do you live near a nuclear power plant? You may not today, but if the nuclear power industry has their way, a lot more of us could have those radioactive smokestacks as neighbors.

Please join musicians Jackson Browne, Graham Nash, Bonnie Raitt as well as a growing list of concerned citizens in signing a petition to Congress that will stop a pending bailout of the nuclear power industry.

Johnny Cash

Today is the anniversary of the birthday of legendary musicianJohnny Cash.

I grew up listening to the music of Johnny Cash. I have always admired his distinctive style and lyrics.

Ballad of ira hayes
by Johnny Cash

CHORUS:
Call him drunken Ira Hayes
He won’t answer anymore
Not the whiskey drinkin’ Indian
Nor the Marine that went to war

Gather round me people there’s a story I would tell
About a brave young Indian you should remember well
From the land of the Pima Indian
A proud and noble band
Who farmed the Phoenix valley in Arizona land

Down the ditches for a thousand years
The water grew Ira’s peoples’ crops
‘Till the white man stole the water rights
And the sparklin’ water stopped

Lennon, the FBI, and “Known Protestors”

Some time ago, I posted about Dave Lippman (aka George Shrub, the sining CIA Agent) getting pulled over, his car searched and arrested for being a “known protestor”.

Today I have learned through my daily news perusal that The FBI will release the last of Its John Lennon Files. There are no surprises in those files, according to historians.

In one memo, then-FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover wrote to H.R. Haldeman, President Nixon’s chief of staff, that “Lennon had taken an interest in ‘extreme left-wing activities in Britain’ and is known to be a sympathizer of Trotskyist communists in England.”

So if you are a “known protester” (as many of us are), feel good that you are being documented in official historical files.

John Lennon

Today is the anniversary of John Lennon‘s Birthday. Lennon would have been 65.

In honor of this occasion, Capitol Records is releasing Working Class Hero – The Definitive Lennon. Produced by Yoko Ono, the double CD set contains a comprehensive collection of 38 of Lennon’s hit singles.

~ If everyone demanded peace instead of another television set, then there’d be peace.
~ If someone thinks that love and peace is a cliche that must have been left behind in the Sixties, that’s his problem. Love and peace are eternal.
~ We’ve got this gift of love, but love is like a precious plant. You can’t just accept it and leave it in the cupboard or just think it’s going to get on by itself. You’ve got to keep watering it. You’ve got to really look after it and nurture it.
~ You either get tired fighting for peace, or you die.
~ Our society is run by insane people for insane objectives. I think we’re being run by maniacs for maniacal ends and I think I’m liable to be put away as insane for expressing that. That’s what’s insane about it.

~ Life is what happens while you are busy making other plans.

Dave Lippman and

Last night was the National Committee Meeting Fundraiser, featuring Dave Lippman, singer songwriter and comedian (with his act as George Shrub) and Anne Feeney, “union maid, hellraiser and labor singer”.

It was fantastic. I’ve seen Dave before but not Anne. If you ever have the chance to go see them, DO. It was great to hear good music and lyrics, be entertained and support our national party.

I was able to take a few photos:

Michael Franti’s Concert

Yesterday was fabulous. I got to the Gallivan Center around 1:00pm with a handful of other folks and by 1:30 had staked out my spot for the first concert in the annual Twilight Concert Series of the season, featuring artist Michael Franti & Spearhead.

The highlight for me was meeting Michael.

Twilight Concert Series – Michael Franti

Thursday evening I am going to attend the Twilight Concert Series opening concert, featuring Michael Franti & Spearhead:

Michael Franti & Spearheadcreate an ultra-infectious mix of classic soul, funk and hip-hop culminating in a unique and powerful blend. Frontman Michael Franti has been important in the world of music for years, fi rst emerging as a quick-tongued rapper fronting the groundbreaking hip-hop group the Beatnigs, followed by the highly critically acclaimed Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy. Fusing superb musicality with politically-charged lyrics, Michael Franti & Spearhead use their music as a vehicle for social conscience, maintaining a positive attitude while tackling some of today’s most complicated issues. Michael Franti has shared the stage with some of the biggest names in music including Nirvana and U2.

Michael Franti walks the talk. I have admired him for quite awhile. I was priveleged to hear him perform in Park City a couple of years ago. Here is what is documented in Wikipedia:
