Why Won’t the Dems Up the Ante?

The U.S. House on Friday will be voting on a “non-binding” resolution opposing the surge of additional troops to Iraq.

Well big whoopin’ deal.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has said the Democratic resolution was the first step in a longer campaign to end U.S. participation in the nearly four-year-old conflict.

Skip that “step” already. You don’t need a “non-binding” resolution to take action. Just DO it! Cut off the money. Vote NO to sending more troops. Get Bush and company out of office!

And while our representatives are pussy-footing around the real actions to be taken, the Bushites are beating the war drums to attack Iran through their war talk.

Congress still has no spine. If they are ever to stop the madmen in their tracks, they must stop spending time and taxpayer dollars to develop resolutions that basically mean nada. By the time they get around to doing anything, there will be yet another war involving U.S. troops.

“Strategy for Success”: Hatch’s reason for supporting Surge

Orrin Hatch is now claiming that more troops are needed in Iraq because of the “failed” preparation for war in the first place.

Huh?

“I am supporting a strategy for success,” Hatch, R-Utah, said on the Senate floor Wednesday.

Of course he means the strategy for success to gain control all the oil in Iraq.

“So far, President Bush — who has a lot to answer for the mistakes that have been made”

What he is referring to is the mistake of not gaining control of the oil in the first place.

— is offering the only way to try to leave Iraq in better shape than it is now.”

He means that it will be better to have more control of the oil fields.

Strategy for “success”? “Success” will be achieved through the immediate withdrawl of U.S. troops so that Iraq can deal with its own issues and no more troops are killed in this illegal occupation of a country we had no business bombing in the first place.

Rupert Murcoch: “We tried to shape the agenda on Iraq.”

Surprised?

Murdoch Confesses To Propaganda On Iraq

Rupert Murdoch in Davos

Murdoch was asked if News Corp. had managed to shape the agenda on the war in Iraq. His answer?

“No, I don’t think so. We tried.” Asked by Rose for further comment, he said: “We basically supported the Bush policy in the Middle East…but we have been very critical of his execution.”

Attack Iran? NO!!!

While America plans to develop new nuclear weapons through the testing of bombs such as Divine Strake, it continues to make plans to attack countries with supposed nuclear arsenals (or countries with supposed plans to develop such).

Makes sense, doesn’t it?

Meanwhile, in Afghanistan

While the Bush Regime continues force more troops into Iraq, it also continues its bullying of the rest of the world by beefing up troops in Afghanistan, much to the surprise of soldiers and their families:

That’s Bush and Cheney on the “Surge”. From today’s AP article in the Deseret News:

President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney say they will not budge from sending more U.S. troops to Iraq no matter how much Congress opposes it. “I fully understand they could try to stop me,” Bush said of the Democrat-run Congress. “But I’ve made my decision, and we’re going forward.”

That’s right. Forget Congress. Forget the people that the Congress represents. Forget the fact that more Americans than not now oppose the war and sending any more troops to Iraq.

Defiant bully dictators. That’s what we are dealing with.

A defiant Cheney, meanwhile, said Democrats offered criticism without credible alternatives. He pointedly reminded lawmakers that Bush is commander in chief.
“You cannot run a war by committee,” the vice president said of congressional input.
“Some of my buddies in Texas say, ‘You know, let them fight it out. What business is it of ours?”‘ Bush said of Iraqis. “And that’s a temptation that I know a lot of people feel. But if we do not succeed in Iraq, we will leave behind a Middle East which will endanger America.”

But wait! It gets better:

Yet when asked if he owes the Iraqi people an apology for botching the management of the war, he said “Not at all.”
“We liberated that country from a tyrant,” Bush said. “I think the Iraqi people owe the American people a huge debt of gratitude.”

The Iraqi people are FAR from liberated and the U.S. presence continues to make the situation worse. Sending more troops is NOT the answer. But what is an equal, if not more so, of a travesty is that the U.S. constitution and democratic way of doing things means nothing here. The Bushites will stop at nothing to get their way.

Zool and Condi

I am a member of the Green Party of the United States Peace Action Committee. One of our members, “zool”, attended the Senate Foreign Relations committee hearing with Condi Rice. and displayed a sign that said “More Lies” during the hearing. It was also printed in The Washington Post on page A14 in the continuation of the Friday, January 12 cover story on the hearing.

Here, zool is seen between Gael Murphy of Code Pink and members of Rice’s security staff. Seated directly behind Secretary Rice , zool repeatedly displayed signs: “Old Lies”, “New Lies”, “More Lies”, “Still Lying”, “Stop Lying”, “Stop War”. After an hour and a half, zool was dragged out of the hearing room by Capitol Police in a posture of nonviolent civil disobedience. zool was detained only briefly, as Chairman Biden declined to have him arrested.

Go zool!

Impeachment Ad in NY Times today

From http://www.VotetoImpeach.org:

Today’s New York Times carries the full page ad calling for the impeachment of George W. Bush (Jan. 12, 2007). Congratulations to all members of ImpeachBush/VoteToImpeach.org who helped place this New York Times ad. This is the third full-page impeachment ad to run in the New York Times. With everyone’s support, we have also placed ads in the San Francisco Chronicle, Boston Globe, USA Today, and other newspapers around the country.

The timing for the ad is excellent. Coming 36 hours after Bush brazenly announced an expansion of his criminal war and occupation in Iraq, the country is seething with anger. Because Bush remains in office, thus far escaping impeachment, thousands more Iraqis and U.S. soldiers will be killed and wounded in a war that should never have happened.

We want to seize the momentum and place the ad in various other newspapers. We will also be having a major impeachment contingent on March 17, the 4th anniversary of the war in Iraq, at the March on the Pentagon in Washington DC. We can place more ads and organize the nationwide grassroots campaign, including this contingent, with everyone’s continued support and commitment to ImpeachBush.org. If you can help, click here

The danger that Bush poses is extreme. His speech of Wednesday night, directly in opposition to the wishes of the American people, not only announced his plan to deepen the war in Iraq, but made clear his direct threat to attack Syria and Iran. Impeachment is imperative. Congress must act before more and more are killed and before Bush’s war spreads into other countries. We cannot wait two more years.

Please take action today:

1. Forward this email to all of your lists and your friends and families. You can do so by clicking here.
2. Be sure to sign the referendum for impeachment and get everyone you know to sign it too. We will be announcing the new calendar and plan of action shortly to everyone who has signed up.
3. Donate now, your help is urgently needed for the impeachment effort. Click here.

The coming months are critical for the impeachment movement. Not only do 70% of the people oppose Bush’s expansion of the Iraq war, the so-called “surge,” the majority believe that Bush should be impeached if he lied about the reasons for the Iraq war, or if he engaged in illegal wiretapping. He did both. This is a people’s movement and everyone’s help is needed. As ImpeachBush.org has stated, “The Constitution cannot defend itself. The people must act.”

If every member and supporter of the impeachment movement made a donation, this ad could be placed in newspapers across the country. If you have contributed before, consider making another donation now. If you have never donated this is the time to take action. Please donate today by clicking here.

Your work and support has taken the Impeachment movement to a significant moment in U.S. politics. People throughout the United States are now openly and frequently discussing the possibility of impeachment and urging their Congressional representatives to take the right step. The letters to the editor and full page ads that you have worked to place have forced the mass media to acknowledge that impeachment is a real issue for this President. Check your email in the coming days for announcements of the next steps and actions, and be sure to get as many as you can to sign the referendum and get involved.
