WASHINGTON, DC — Calling the Obama/Biden ticket the "faux antiwar" candidates, Green Party leaders urged national support and votes for the Green Party nominees, Cynthia McKinney and Rosa Clemente, and for the party’s ‘Peace Slate’ of candidates for Congress and other offices.

Greens challenged the belief among many pro-Obama voters that his candidacy opposed the warhawk actions of the Bush-Cheney White House, and noted that the Democrat-led Congress elected in 2006 — including Sen. Obama — endorsed most of the Bush Administration’s legislative agenda.

DESPITE POLICE RAIDS AND ARRESTS, MINNESOTA GREENS JOIN ANTIWAR, ANTIPOVERTY PROTESTS AT RNC

Greens have been among those targeted for harassment and intimidation by police in a wave of pre-emptive actions taken before the Republican National Convention in St. Paul.

On Saturday police surrounded the home of Michael Whelan, a long-time Green Party supporter, whose Arise Bookstore at one time housed the party’s office. He was host to a group of independent journalists. The police broke down doors and subjected occupants to house arrest. “You figure this would be going on in South Africa, or Russia, not in St. Paul,” Whelan said. “St. Paul is nice.”

The previous night, police had invaded a meeting space in St. Paul rented by the anarchist RNC Welcoming Committee. They seized equipment and subjected some fifty people to handcuffing and search. Next day Monica Bicking, a leading member of the organization, was jailed along with three friends, and her home in Minneapolis was boarded up for alleged violation of city codes.

50 Greens giving $20 puts Cynthia McKinney on Utah’s ballot

50 Greens giving $20 puts Cynthia McKinney on Utah’s ballot

Please help Cynthia and Rosa Get on the Utah Ballot!

Help us surmount the costly ballot access barriers we face. Today we sent the $ 500 check to the Utah Secretary of State, but if we’re to see Cynthia and Rosa’s names on the ballot in Utah, we must also still raise $ 1,000.00 more in round trip air fare to get Cynthia to Utah to qualify for her place on the ballot. Its true, Utah statute requires Cynthia’s presence, in person before the Lieutenant Governor, in order to qualify for a place on November’s ballot. Please give to the $ 1,500 needed to put Cynthia and Rosa on the Utah ballot!

For purposes of qualifying for Fedeal Matching Funds, contributions now from Florida, Maryland, Colorado, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Iowa, Oklahoma and Viginia are particularly welcome at this moment!

While any contribution up to $ 2,300 per donor is welcome in support of this campaign, only the first $ 250 of each individual contribution counts for the Matching program.

Please use our donor form to make as generous a donation as you can. Then send all of your friends, coworkers and neighbors to this site asking that they match or exceed your donation.

Help get Cynthia to Utah!

Hip Hop VP: A Q+A With Rosa Clemente

Published on Vibe Launch

Talk about the platform. What do you think the Green Party has over the other parties?

This is the only party that even has social justice as its core principle. When we say ending the war, we mean all the wars. We need to get all the military out of every country, we need to begin to deal with issues of what peace can look like, how do you sustain that. Obviously, the green party is at the forefront of pushing the environment as a core value, that was innovative then. There should be an end to imprisoning young people, an immediate stop to the death penalty, a livable wage, not a minimum wage. Impeachment for George Bush and them is critical. I think if we don’t hold them accountable as a people, then anybody can do the same shit that they did.

Words are words, but we can make the words into deeds. If people would even open up the platform, they would see that neither the Democrats and Republicans would even talk about young people having rights and that we should be signing some of these international treaties, like the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The hardest part is to literally get people to open it up and want to be exposed.
