I’m going with Carmen to the doctor this Wednesday. I’m so excited and nervous at the same time! We are hoping to hear the heartbeat.
Carmen came to see me on Saturday and brought me the loveliest bouquet of flowers for Mother’s Day!

Be sure to read today’s Carnival of the Green at EarthEcho. There should be a piece about tomorrow’s Blogswarm to Stop the Divine Strake, along with other great pieces of reading!

A recent Desert Morning News poll shows that 92% of Salt Lake County citizens polled are willing to pay more taxes to get more TRAX lines added.
A proposal from the Utah Transit Authority calls for residents to vote on a property-tax increase that would cost an average of $95 a year on a $180,000 home. The poll question incorrectly said the $95 increase would apply to a $200,000 home.
The tax increase would allow Salt Lake County to obtain a 30-year bond for UTA to collect $875 million for the expansions. The federal government and UTA would pick up the rest of the expected $1.25-billion tab.
This is a good start towards the shift that people will have to make. Eventually people will have to realize that we will have to pay more taxes to add more bus lines to take people to the TRAX stations – together with riding bicycles and walking more. It’s inevitable.
Here is more info for those who would like to be more involved:

I had a smile cover my face as I read this article today:
Pair’s recycling business reaps fresh rewards
Family affair: The Beach brothers, 6 and 8, work with their father to earn experience and cash.
The two children started their business, called “Tree Huggers”, in North Logan, Utah, with their Dad’s help.
They sort the paper, glass, metal, Styrofoam and plastic materials for 11 customers in their North Logan neighborhood. With Dad’s help, they then truck the goods to Utah State University’s Recycling Center. The boys aren’t getting rich from their eco-enterprise, but they are gaining a wealth of experience.
They are learning about responsibility, cooperation, customer service, and time and money management.
The neighbors are ecstatic over this venture and fully supportive. The business will continue until a recently adopted county recylcing ordinance is implemented. The boys then plan to adapt by collecting glass and and chopping wood.

Sarandon Joins Vigil Against Iraq War
Susan Sarandon and Cindy Sheehan joined in a vigil at the White House over this Mother’s Day weekend, with letters to deliver to Laura Bush, uring her to pursuade her husband to personally notify mothers whose children have died while serving in Iraq.
The protest was organized by CodePink Women for Peace.
I found this on Delco Times:
—————————————-
Millions of American mothers today are being showered with flowers, candy and other gifts from their children and husbands. They are being taken out to dinner, served breakfast in bed and otherwise wined and dined in salute of their maternal status.
Sons and spouses are saluting their “best girls” while daughters are dedicating the day to their ultimate role models.
Grandmothers and great-grandmothers are also being honored for their parenting skills.
But for some mothers, it is a day of sad remembrance of children lost to war.
For mothers like anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan, whose soldier son was killed in Iraq two years ago, it hearkens back to the true origins of Mother’s Day in the United States.

Citizens of St. George, Utah held a rally to voice opposition to the Divine Strake test yesterday.
Several dozen participated. according to the Las Vegas Sun article. This was the first rally ever organized by these folks, who called me early last week to ask me questions about organizing rallies.
Another article appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune: Anti-Divine Strake rally draws fewer than hoped; opponents sign petitions.
Way to go, St. George!
