About 10 people participated in singing anti-consumerism carols at a local shopping center.
and about half a dozen animal rights activists engage in some clever protesting against retailers of fur clothing.
At one point there were activists on all corners of the interesection, including a man and his son distributing religious literature.
There was a significant police presence as well.
A participant asked an officer where a bathroom was, to which the officer repsonded, Over there[pointing], but you can’t use it because it’s private property.
Shoppers accepted the fliers. The most positive reception came from parents with children in strollers. who engaged in discussion about their children’s future which seemed to make a difference.
There were some local artisans set up on the sidewalk selling things like hand blown glass christmas ornaments.
The event was “non-eventful”. I learned later from a fellow Green from Rhode Island of his Buy Nothing Day Event, a “coat exchange” where thousands of coats were given away. This is what I plan to pursue for next year.

I think my highlight was the bicycle ride, but alas the coat idea does seem more productive to the event of Buy Nothing.
Thanks for posting pictures, and maybe next year we can sing and distribute coats with other people.
