Polls Indicate Non-Duopoly Candidates Could Determine Outcome of the Election

Ron Paul held what he described as a “very important” press conference on September 10th in Washington, DC. The event brought four third party and independent candidates “together in unity” around a statement of principles.  The event came as polls showed the presidential race tightening and third party/independent candidates getting combined votes of over 10% in swing states. The four candidates – Independent Ralph Nader, the Green nominee Cynthia McKinney, the Constitution Party’s Chuck Baldwin and the Libertarian Party’s Bob Barr along with Ron Paul agreed on the following four key principles:

Foreign Policy: The Iraq War must end as quickly as possible with removal of all our soldiers from the region. Continue reading

WASHINGTON, DC — Calling the Obama/Biden ticket the "faux antiwar" candidates, Green Party leaders urged national support and votes for the Green Party nominees, Cynthia McKinney and Rosa Clemente, and for the party’s ‘Peace Slate’ of candidates for Congress and other offices.

Greens challenged the belief among many pro-Obama voters that his candidacy opposed the warhawk actions of the Bush-Cheney White House, and noted that the Democrat-led Congress elected in 2006 — including Sen. Obama — endorsed most of the Bush Administration’s legislative agenda.

Hip Hop VP: A Q+A With Rosa Clemente

Published on Vibe Launch

Talk about the platform. What do you think the Green Party has over the other parties?

This is the only party that even has social justice as its core principle. When we say ending the war, we mean all the wars. We need to get all the military out of every country, we need to begin to deal with issues of what peace can look like, how do you sustain that. Obviously, the green party is at the forefront of pushing the environment as a core value, that was innovative then. There should be an end to imprisoning young people, an immediate stop to the death penalty, a livable wage, not a minimum wage. Impeachment for George Bush and them is critical. I think if we don’t hold them accountable as a people, then anybody can do the same shit that they did.

Words are words, but we can make the words into deeds. If people would even open up the platform, they would see that neither the Democrats and Republicans would even talk about young people having rights and that we should be signing some of these international treaties, like the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The hardest part is to literally get people to open it up and want to be exposed.

Protesting in Denver (DNC)

I’ve been hearing so many rumors and bits of information about the two organizing groups in Denver (See my post here), that I”m not sure what’s what anymore.

I am not going to retract my posts because I feel I’ve provided information from the two groups’ websites for my readers to be informed about each one of their missions. However, I will state here that I’m a little suspicious about all the hoop-la and wonder what is being done on purpose to disrupt versus clear disagreement in philosophies and making a big deal out of it.

Also, I do know for a fact that some Colorado Greens are/were making attempts to take Cynthia McKinney off their ballot – not fair in my opinion. However, these same Greens, who are hard working and dedicated to the peace movement, are willing to enter into mediation internally in the GPUS.

My sincere desire is to know that all goes well in Denver and that big noises are made to advocate for peace and that the media covers it. A lot of folks have been working hard for a long time to make this happen, including our Green friends in Denver.

Cynthia McKinney and Rosa Clemente at the DNC

It appears that Cynthia McKinney and Rosa Clemente will be participating with both groups at the DNC the last week of August. They are scheduled to speak at the ARD event and to march with the R68 group.

Regardless of varying philosophies of protesting by both of these groups, this is the RIGHT thing for McKinney/Clemente to do. It is disingenuous of the Colorado Greens or anyone else to denounce any individual or group who choose to participate with one group or the other, or both groups.

This is a PEACE movement – HEL–LOOOOO!. The more folks involved to stand up against the injustices in our world the better. The more factionalism that occurs, the more the right-wingers (I include the Democrats in that) smile because the progressive movement will never move forward with all this controversy. Don’t you see? It’s exactly what they want!

So to all those attending the DNC protests – cut the crap and just do what you need to do to speak out! Just do it! Do it for those of us who cannot be there! Do it for all life that suffers on our planet!
