cynthia celebrates her family – her son growing up in her legislative office, how her mom helped keep peace between cynthia and her dad when they had political differences…we need an opposition party…we will proclaim our presence in every nook and cranny in the nation…

rosa clemente speaks – back on track. rosa asks the house to play some hip hop music before her speech. rosa acknowledges her family friends and supporters including her husband and young daughter. and rosa thanks her friend jared ball. and a list of wbai producers. thanks to best radio network …pacifica. coila clark on stage was a professor and mentor to rosa.

McKinney Wins on First Ballot at Green Party Convention July 12th, 2008 Thanks to blogger Ronald Hardy at http://www.greenpartywatch.org, as well as http://www.greensforgreens.org, the results of the roll call at the Green Party national convention in Chicago are known now: Cynthia McKinney 313 Ralph Nader 78.5 Kat Swift 38.5 Kent Mesplay 35 Jesse Johnson 32.5 Elaine Brown 9 Jared Ball 8 Howie Hawkins 8 uncommitted or undecided 8.5 total votes cast: 532 Rosa Clemente was chosen vice-presidential nominee by a show of hands. She is the first person of Puerto Rican background to run for president or vice-president in a general election. No votes were cast from these 12 states: Alabama, Alaska, Idaho, Kansas, Kentucky, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, or Vermont. At the 2004 Green national convention, seven states did not participate: Alaska, Kentucky, New Hampshire, North Dakota, South Dakota, West Virginia, and Wyoming.

Cynthia McKinney Wins Green Party Presidential Nomination

July 12, 2008

Cynthia McKinney won the right to be the Green Party of the United States presidential candidate in 2008 today at the GP-US Convention in Chicago. In an overwhelming vote, McKinney, a former Member of Congress from Georgia, was picked by Greens from states across the country to be their standard bearer this year. Hip-hop activist and journalist Rosa Clemente was selected to be the vice-presidential candidate of the Greens.

McKinney served six terms representing DeKalb County’s 4th Congressional District as a Democrat and now lives in California.

About 800 delegates are attending the convention at the Palmer House Hilton hotel.

Clemente said she accepted McKinney’s invitation to be her running mate because she believes the former Georgia Congresswoman’s platform addresses issues not addressed by Republican John McCain and Democrat Barack Obama.

“I chose to do this, not for me, but for my generation, my community and my daughter,” said Clemente, 35, in the statement. “I don’t see the Green Party as an alternative, I see it as imperative.”
