Rupert Murcoch: “We tried to shape the agenda on Iraq.”

Surprised?

Murdoch Confesses To Propaganda On Iraq

Rupert Murdoch in Davos

Murdoch was asked if News Corp. had managed to shape the agenda on the war in Iraq. His answer?

“No, I don’t think so. We tried.” Asked by Rose for further comment, he said: “We basically supported the Bush policy in the Middle East…but we have been very critical of his execution.”

I Wish the Salt Lake Tribune Would Get it Straight

After all these years I still can’t believe the Utah media can’t get it right. I’m referring to this article in today’s Salt Lake Tribune:

Goshutes, PFS press their battle for a nuke dump

The article makes it look like the entire Goshute Tribe wants PFS on their reservation.

Nothing could be further from the truth. The tribe is split on the issue. You can see how far back this goes with the articles below.

So why can’t they get it right yet?

Corporate Snitch Notifier

I discovered this neat little feature about Mozilla Firefox:

CSNotifier – The CorporateSnitch Notifier

CSNotifier – The Consumer has the Right to Know

Would you purchase that computer manufactured by a company that has profited from the War in Iraq?

Perhaps you would think twice about spending your hard-earned cash on shampoo if you knew that the company that manufactured it tested it on animals?

Whether your answer to these questions is “yes” or “no”, the CSNotifier gives you real-time information about Entities, the Products/Services they provide, and the practices they follow as you browse the Internet. Once you have installed it and your preferences have been set, you simply need to browse with Firefox as you normally would. A non-obtrusive window will appear inside your browser when you view a Web page about which CorporateSnitch has information.

“Why isn’t the CSNotifier showing when I visit the Web page of CompanyX?”
This is the question most often asked about our services. The simple answer is that we have not yet had a chance to enter the data related to that company’s practices. However, we are hoping you can help. With the release of CSNotifier version 1.3 (due for approval by Mozilla on 2007.01.16), we will provide tools for you to easily report Evidence to us regarding any Entity that you find.

FAQ (Excerpt)

Q: Will the CSNotifier replace the affiliate IDs added by sites that I visit with its own?
A: Yes and no. If a standard, direct affiliate product link was used to direct you to the product on the Preferred Merchant site, the referring site’s affiliate ID will not be replaced. However, it has been brought to our attention that subsequent links to products are being replaced by the CSNotifier in versions 1.1 and earlier. Example: SiteX.com has a link to BookY on Amazon.com. If you click on the link and then purchase BookY on Amazon.com, SiteX.com will receive credit for the purchase. However, if you then click on a different product on Amazon.com, the CSNotifier receives credit for that purchase. Please note that it was never our intent to take referral fees away from Web sites, and that all affiliate ID code has been removed from version 1.21 of the CSNotifier (currently being reviewed by the Mozilla staff). You can download version 1.21 now at http://www.corporatesnitch.com/CSNotifier/Install.aspx. We apologize and thank you for your patience in this matter.

“in Utah this week”

Tonight I and several other folks were interviewed byin Utah this week, the weekly entertainment and event magazine of the Salt Lake Tribune. The focus of the article will be Buy Nothing Day and the Desert Greens Winter Coat Exchange.

The issue will be out on Thanksgiving Day.

Press Conference for Fair Media Election Coverage

Well, as anticipated, no cameras or reporters showed up to the Press Conference and Rally for Advocating the Media to Provide More Fair Election Coverage, but a handful of people did!
There were candidates from the Personal Choice, Libertarian, and Desert Greens Parties. And a spcial appearance by the Bush Chain Gang was enjoyed by all.

Air America Advertisers Being Told to Withdraw Commercials

ABC memo reveals Air America advertiser blacklist

An internal ABC Radio Networks memo obtained by Media Matters for America, originally from a listener to The Peter B. Collins Show, indicates that nearly 100 ABC advertisers insist that their commercials be blacked out on Air America Radio affiliates. According to the memo, the advertisers insist that “NONE of their commercials air during AIR AMERICA programming.” Among the advertisers listed are Bank of America, Exxon Mobil, Federal Express, General Electric, McDonald’s, Microsoft, Wal-Mart, and the U.S. Navy.

Coverning all Candidates

One of the questions I was asked today in my interview was what solution I would suggest for the media who thinks that they have just so much time to cover candidates, thus their “solution” to create thresholds.

My answer was something to the effect that I do not agree with thresholds and that the media needs to examine its practices so that all candidates are covered equally.

I wish I would have been quick enough to think to say that the media needs to take all the time it calculates it has time for to cover candidates and divide that up equally amongst all canidates.

Simple, isn’t it?

Inside Utah

Today I was interviewed by Jennifer Napier-Pearce for her podcast program called Inside Utah. I was interviewed on the upcoming rally to advocate for the Media to provide fair election coverage of all candidates.
