Rupert Murdoch and MySpace

I was reading an update from David Rovics on his tour and he had a paragraph about his MySpace Account. David switched to MySpace from LiveJournal recently. Here are some links to info in today’s news about Rupert Murdoch and MySpace:

The Sunday Mail: Internet vision for Murdoch
Seattle Times:FCC will revisit sticky issue of ownership, but Big Media may not pay much attention
Security Focus:MySpace, a place without MyParents
CNNMoney.com:Can this man make MySpace safe for kids? Being seen as unsafe may be an even bigger risk than being uncool.
Brand Republic:Murdoch counting on $350m internet revenue in 2006
People to People Net:Billy Brag wins MySpace fight
AOL Money and Finance:Google’s Near Miss: MySpace

Here is what I like about Live Journal:

  • Small business with few paid staff and many volunteers
  • Open Source based
  • Ad-Free
  • Technical assistance 24-7
  • I’ve had absolutely no problems with Live Journal – No outages, crashes, no pop-ups, etc.
  • Not owned by a corporate giant who monopolizes the media industry

I’m looking into my own PHP/MySQL software that I can manipulate myself for another project that I am doing with a blog feature. For now I’m keeping my personal blogs with Live Journal because I am very happy with it.
