The School where I teach is all “a-buzz” with musical and theater happenings upcoming. We have a new theater teacher this year who is dynamic and has not been hesitant to get the students invovled in exciting productions. We will be doing “Little Shop of Horrors” in the spring.
Here is what will be happening the next two weeks. My music students will be providing pre-show music on some of the nights:
The Academy Players and City Academy present “The Salt Lake City Holiday Follies.” In the style of the great Ziegfeld Follies, it’s an over the top, glitzed and glamorized look at the holidays in Salt Lake City. Join the Emcee on a hilarious and heart warming journey through large musical numbers, extravagantly ornate costumes–some of which are over 10 feet tall–and a variety of acts, scenes, and monologues, that will leave you singing from the roof tops!
Written and directed by Brandon Stauffer, Theater Director at City Academy, the show will be performed by the “Academy Players”, our own student theater troupe. The Holiday Follies open on December 8th and run for 6 performances, including December 9, 10, 15, 16, and 17.
Each evening starts with pre-show entertainment beginning at 6:30 PM, followed by a “hearty meal to warm the heart” and the show at 7:00 PM.
A special performance will be held on December 10th at 2:00 PM for City Academy students and their famililies. Admission is free For City Academy students who present a school ID, $5.00 for adults and children under 12 are free.
Miss Utah, Amy Davis, will make a special appearance in some of the performances.
For all other performances, the cost of an evening at the Follies is $15 per adult and $6 per child under 12. The show will entertain and lighten the heart of every family member from young to old. Tickets are on sale now through the Follies Box Office phone line at 801-688-6617. All proceeds from this event benefit City Academy students and their programs.
