Tom King, a Green Party of Utah member and participant with People for Peace and Justice of Utah appeared in the KCPW Radio Program Miday Metro, speaking about the Utah Peace Movement. Tom appeared with another guest from another newly formed Utah Peace Organization.
Interesting Note: Both guests refer to the Green Party of Utah, but only one speaks the truth.

Diana Lee Hirschi is a leader of the Green Party of Utah
I was impressed with Toms participation in the radio forum. I give him kudos. I was really impressed when James said that one of his local heroes was Diana Lee Hirschi who was the head of the Green Party of Utah and Tom came back by mentioning the Green party of Utah as well but giving your website address instead of the opposing green party web address of which Diana is a member of. I thought that was good retort and much better then the retort I feared was coming.
But the real truth is that Diana is a leader (not the leader as James mentioned) of the registered Green Party of Utah and that in 2002 she got over 14,000 votes for Salt Lake County Council at large seat – which is more votes then any other local Utah green has ever gotten and that she has been involved in green politics long before you and Tom were active and she has been a primary mover and shaker in anti-nuclear weapons testing and activism and other issues of peace and justice since the mid 1980’s.
In that sense I believe that both Tom and James spoke the truth and that Tom did not speak the only truth. Only his perception of the truth.
Yes, Tom was quite impressive. It is unfortunate that participants in the unaffiliated group cannot restrain themselves when in such situations in public, as displayed by their publicly self-humiliating behaviors in their attempts to discredit and degrade the members of the affiliated group.
Tom does indeed set an example of diplomacy and professionalism.
This is quite interesting. Well before Diana Lee Hirschi joined the Green Party, Tom King became a member, officer, founded a Local and announced his candidacy for state house. In fact, Hirschi’s arm had to be twisted to join the party because of her insistence that she is/was really an “anarchist”. After much coersion, she reluctantly joined.
It is alo interesting to point out that over the years Hirschi has denounced the use of the label “leader”, yet she proclaims to be, and allows to be proclaimed as, a “leader” of a variety of causes in the community. It was admirable of Tom to denounce, on the air, being labeled a “leader” and that he is one of many who participate together in the movement. An example of green values if ever there was one.
correction
Regarding the above comment, there is an error: Tom King was not an officer but, rather, his Local’s primary contact, placing him on the coordinating council. This is different from an “officer” of the party which is defined as the seven elected positions at the conventions. These officers, together with the Local representatives, comprise the party’s council.
Re: Diana Lee Hirschi is a leader of the Green Party of Utah
It needs to be said that numerous people worked on the election effort for Dianna Lee Hirschi that retained ballot status 2002. This was achieved by a concerted effort of the entire party and it’s resources.
Anyone who thinks this was all done by Dianna alone is not in touch with reality. The nature of the green party is to promote values and grassroots participation. Any votes that any green candidate gets belong to the party and the people and values we represent. Just because DLH ran as a Green and did well does not make her a leader or even a great person it is just makes her another person who was willing to run for office using Green Party criteria and green party support. She could not have done it without people like Tom and Deanna and many other Green party members.
Some people think DLH is a leader and a notable activist and some people don’t, I sure am glad she never got elected to anything though.
Re: Diana Lee Hirschi is a leader of the Green Party of Utah
Come on. She got almost 14 times as many votes as any other Green. It’s because she worked hard with other people.
