Info on 2000th soldier death and vigils-Updated

There are lots of websites publishing information and events surrounding the 2000th soldier death in Iraq:

Utah Papers:
Salt Lake Tribune: Toll in Iraq reaches 2000
and A personal look at a few of the 2,000

Deseret News:Toll hits 2,000: Bush laments troop deaths but vows to finish mission.

Tom King is interviewed in the D-News Article. Also, a correction was sent to that reporter. Utah Rally for Peace did not organize tonight’s Salt Lake Rally. The organizing group is People for Peace and Justice of Utah, which organized this long before national calls were made.

  1. This is a sad response to our vigil that PPJ received today. This may be the
kind of mentality we will be dealing with by pro-war folks tonight:

It would be far better to celebrate the number of enemy killed.
We are at WAR; some people feel responsible for their country and will fight
to defend freedom. Ours is a volunteer military, something you should
respect. No one wants war, but all want freedom and freedom is not free.
If you can read this, thank a teacher; if you can read it in English, thank a
soldier – someone gave their life so you can.

  2. Sounds like this person has been reading right-wing blogs — there’s a story going around on them that says that “liberals” will be holding “celebrations” when the 2000th soldier is killed. I’m trying to understand how a vigil can be considered a “celebration”.
It’s too bad this person considers civilians, including children, to be enemies, as they are dying in far greater numbers than the insurgents. It’s also too bad he/she thinks we should be celebrating the 100,000+ deaths that we have caused to Iraqis on a war based on lies.
We’d still be speaking English if Bush had decided not to wage war.
