People, especially politicians, are all excited because the DoE came out today with the statement that the Divine Strake test is being postponed until later in June.
But in the Salt Lake Tribune article, there is one paragraph that reads:
The Energy Department’s partner in the test, the Defense Threat Reduction
Agency, denied any delay late Monday.
“As far as we’re concerned, we’re still saying June 2,” said Irene Smith, a
spokeswoman for DTRA in Washington. “We have not received any direction that
would cause us to change the June 2 date at this point.”
Hmmm….
Another thing that bothers me is politicians stating that they are “satisifed” with the delay.
Satisifed with the delay????
No one should be satisfied until the test is entirely CANCELLED.
The action will continue.
Thousands of people sent in their comments to the BLM during a public comment period to oppose proposals to build a rail route or a loading facility to service the proposed high-level nuclear waste storage site, Private Fuel Storage (PFS) in western Utah. I sent in my early last week.
The State of Utah alone filed over 40 pages of documentation and legal arguments against the proposal.
Here are two articles I found today:

I have posted here in the past couple of weeks my involvement in the planning of an action to Stop the Divine Strake. I am releasing the Action Alert today for an International Day of Action at the Nevada Test Site on Western Shoshone Land on Sunday, May 28. People will be at the event from all over the country.
Here are the details:

I get a lot of questions about the meaning of the term “strake” as in the Divine Strake” test scheduled for June 2 at the Nevada Test Site.
Global Security has these definitions:
Divine: Having the nature of or being a deity. Of, relating to, emanating from, or being the expression of a deity: sought divine guidance through meditation. Being in the service or worship of a deity; sacred. Superhuman; godlike. Supremely good or beautiful; magnificent: a divine performance of the concerto. Extremely pleasant; delightful: had a divine time at the ball. Heavenly; perfect.
Strake: A device for controlling air flow over an aircraft. A strake is also a part of a boat or ship used for generally the same purpose in water rather than air. It is a strip of planking in a wooden vessel or of plating in a metal one, running longitudinally along the vessel’s side, its bottom or between them on the turn of the bilge.

I heard today that it was Fair Trade Day by some people that attended a Fair Trade event in Salt Lake. I thought that WFTD was the second Saturday in May, so I looked that up and discovered that World Fair Trade Day is actually May 13, so I didn’t miss it!
Here are links to info on WFTD:

At any rate, it’s good to buy Fair Trade every day and the above links are to sources that provide a lot of information about that.

….The Deseret News has an article this morning about the American Lung Association’s report on Salt Lake Metro Area being the 5th highest in the nation in terms of a particular kind of air pollution.
The lung association’s “State of the Air: 2006” report gives Utah failing marks concerning the finest particle pollutants, for short periods of high pollution levels.
The article quotes the director of the Utah Division of Air Quality as disputing that report but admitting that Utahns do have health problems associated with the pollution here. He stated that the report card’s implementation is “uniformly despised” by air quality directors across the country “because of its unscientific criteria it uses.”
The EPA is proposing new rules for standards that would expose even higher levels of pollution, according to the article. The article does not address what measures should or will be put into place to address this issue.
The Earth Day Network is the offical earth day organization that promotes Earth Day each year and provides tons of resources to advocate for a healtheir environment.

Here is a “snippet” from that page:
Founded by Coppy Holzman, a recognized pioneer in e-commerce trends, online cause marketing and a senior retail executive with the best brands in the business for over 25 years, the charitybuzz brand embraces the following core principles:
(only one ishighlighted here)
We have a social conscience. We strive to present relevant observations and encourage political and social discourse. We will attempt to be non partisan but know that we can never stand on the sidelines regarding the critical social issues of the day. Well placed passion is a virtue and engaged dialogue is a catalyst for positive social and political change.
It looks like you probably have to be willing to spend some significant bucks for this, but if one has that, it looks like a good thing to do for an organization that helps so many of us around the world plan and implement earth day events and educational activities.
I am glad to see this article in today’s Deseret News: A green sweep: Tired of using chemicals? Here are eco-friendly suggestions for keeping your house spick and span
The article explains how to use non-toxic cleaners and how you should dispose of expired chemicals.
