Camp Democracy

We’re here! We arrived yesterday afternoon. When we arrived at the camp we discovered things had slowed down for the day and preparations were being made to set up a second camp a few blocks away.

We were pleasantly surprised to learn upon meeting staff that we were being expected! So today we are up and out early to go help set up the second camp.

We are staying at fellow Green’s home of Tom and Tamar Yager.
Here are a few photos – more to come of course!

Cemp Democracy Begins Today

Camp Democracy officially begins today. Camp Democracy is a non-partisan camp for peace, democracy, and the restoration of the rule of law. It is focused not only on ending the war but also on righting injustices here at home and on holding accountable the Bush Administration and Congress.

Meeting People

I met the greatest lady super duper activist at Camp Casey: Barbara Cummings.

First, she had the greates t-shirts with “Impeach Bush and Cheney” on them, which I bought several, that her son designed and sells them through After Downing Street.org. There is a page with Barbara in a photo on that site too.

Barbara is a wealth of information and enthuiasm, energy and life. She is a terrific person – compassionate and caring and has a heart of gold.

She called me tonight to touch base with us about coming to Camp Democracy next week. Now, out of all the people she has met and developed relationships with, for her to remember us here in Utah really means a lot to me.

I am so excited to go to Camp Democracy in 7 days – not only to be part of that event but to see Barbara again.

Camp Democracy

At Long Last ..

We held a press conference on August 29, 2006, to announce Camp Democracy. It aired on C-Span. The Associated Press wrote an article. PoliticsTV.com filmed the event, and has posted the one-hour video. The advisory that we sent to the media prior to the event has more information.

At long last, Americans are preparing to say “Enough is enough” on September 5th when Camp Democracy begins on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. Can we count on you to help make it happen? Sign Up to stay informed and volunteer to participate.

Here’s the schedule of what’s happening each day. Tents will provide activist activities, trainings, workshops, and entertainment on these themes: End War: Peace, nonviolence, accountability, and impeachment | Human Rights: Civil Rights, Immigrants Rights, Workers Rights, Women’s Rights, Voting Rights, Katrina | End Corporate Welfare, Meet Human Needs: Healthcare/ Energy/ Education/ Environment | Communications and Creativity: Hands-on Media and Arts Training.

You can visit Spaceshare to offer a ride or to ask for one, or if you have or need a room in the Washington, D.C., area. Camp Democracy is a grassroots effort and will only succeed with the help of many, many people. Can you help us? Click here to make a donation to Camp Democracy.
