Green Senatorial Campaign Committee

Greens,

A few weeks ago, the Green Party became the first alternative political party in history to register a national senatorial campaign committee with the Federal Election Commission. The eight-member Green Senatorial Campaign Committee chaired by Teresa Keane, a former Green Senate candidate from Oregon, was created to promote the campaigns of Green Party candidates running for the United States Senate.
The committee’s main goal for the 2006 election cycle is to support as many qualified Green campaigns as possible. The Green Party has nominated 14 senate candidates for 2006 and a key issue in their races is the Iraq War. Green candidates call for immediate withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq. With your personal investment we will help Green campaigns get their message out – a message that America wants to hear. To raise those voices – we need to raise some money.

Adding to My Campaign Platform

I did a lot of thinking over the weekend, while I was camping and hiking, about things I’d like to add to my campaign platform. One idea that came as a result of my hiking experience this weekend is one that I plan to formalize this more for my campaign website:

  • ATV use in recreational areas:

    On Nationalism and Patriotism

“Patriotism is your conviction that this country is superior to all other countries because you were born in it.”
    — George Bernard Shaw, author

    “The love of one’s country

    is a splendid thing.

    But why should love

    stop at the border?”
    –Pablo Casals, musician

nationalism, when hate for people other than your own comes first.”
    –Charles de Gaulle, French leader

“Flags are bits of colored cloth that governments use

    first to shrink-wrap people’s brains

    and then as ceremonial shrouds

    to bury the dead.”

“It is not easy to see how the more extreme forms of nationalism can long survive when men have seen the Earth in its true perspective as a single small globe against the stars.”

Orrin Hatch “questions courage” of opponents

    April 29:
UPDATE: The article below appears in today’s paper with this headline:
    Third-party candidates: Bring troops home
The incumbent: Hatch says an immediate Iraq pullout is irresponsible, and calls Bush’s decision to invade ‘wise’

The Salt Lake Tribune updated its online site this afternoon with an article about the debate tomorrow night: Leaving Iraq: Pros and Cons

Update: Senate candidates’ Iraq views clash

If Dave Starr Seely were to become Utah’s next U.S. senator he would vote to immediately end the war in Iraq and bring U.S. troops home.

“It is time to just bow out of it as quickly as possible,” said the Libertarian candidate. “This war has proven to be the biggest terrorist recruiting effort ever.”
Constitution Party candidate Scott Bradley also would vote for a complete troop withdrawal, as would Desert Greens candidate Julian Hatch and Roger Price of the Personal Choice party.
But none of these men are expected to become Utah’s next senator. And the man who will most likely retain that seat could not have a more contrary view.

“It is irresponsible to make any declaration of withdrawal,” said Republican Sen. Orrin Hatch, who is seeking to win his sixth term in office this November. Hatch not only disagrees with these third-party candidates but questioned the courage of those who side with them. “If we just have the guts to continue we will be effective in establishing one of the only representative governments in the Middle
    East,” Hatch said.

    Campaign Website

I’ve updated my campaign website with a totally new design. There may be a few changes as time progresses, but overall I’m pleased with it. It was also a learning event for me in using php.

You can see my new website at Deanna Taylor for County Council.

    Green Candidates

The Green Party of the United States is spotlighting candidates each week on its website. You can read about the candidates around the nation .

So far there are 241 Candidates in 2006 in 32 States in 52 Types of Offices. There have already been 17 victories in races this year.

The largest slate is Californina with 44 greens running, followed by Texas (yes, Texas!) which has 24, then Wisconsin with 21 and then Pennsylvania with 20. Gubernatorial offices are being pursued by greens in California, Connecticut, Illinois, Maine, Massachussetts, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Texas.
