Each Evening at Camp Casey there is a program, period of reflection, and vigil.
Saturday, August 19
Zacharay, Program Coordinator for Camp Casey
Cloy Richards, Iraq Vets Against the War, shares his experiences, particularly that of his military buddies who enjoyed killing children. Over the weekend, Cloy was able to convince a friend of his in Waco, who was between deployments to Iraq, to not return to Iraq – truly a victory of conscience.
Kyle Johnson, founder of Bumperactive, shares his poetry.
Genevieve, a truly awesome spoken word artist from Austin, shares several of her pieces. He and her husband were married at Camp Casey last year.
Barbara Cummings, Camp Security Coordinator, shares information about Camp Democracy which will be set up in Washington, DC from Sept 3 on.
Reverend Yearwood of the Hip Hop Caucus – “The Rev” – told an amazing story about how he became associated with Cindy Sheehan (separate post to follow on this).
Cindy Sheehan talks about the experience of the day protesting Karl Rove.
After the program in the tent, participants proceeded outside by the Soldier’s Memorial Garden for a closing vigil. I played a medley of tunes on the flute at the end.
Meeting and Greeting afterwards in the meeting tent

More entertainment by Camp Casey Musicians

After the Program the closing vigil is held outside, beginning with gathering music.
Reverend Diane of Dallas, a Unitarian minister, leads the vigil.
Musicians provide reflective renditions of pieces during the vigil.
