I will be offline for a few days.
The Green Party of the United States issued a press release today on the Stop the Divine Strake Action. I a m quoted in it:
“It’s obvious that Divine Strake is a show of force preceding an imminent attack on the people of Iran — which may include the use of nuclear weapons. It’s a test run for President Bush’s apparent attempt to set off a world war with Middle Eastern nations,” said Deanna Taylor, Desert Green candidate for Salt Lake County Council , who plans to participate in the protest. Desert Greens (Green Party of Utah) have led the Green Party of the United States in opposing the test.

ALBUQUERQUE PROTEST SUNDAY, MAY 28 CALLS TO
STOP ATTACK ON IRAN
TO BRING OUR TROOPS HOME FROM IRAQ
TO RETURN INDIAN LAND
On Sunday, May 28, 11 am at the Truman Street Gate of Kirtland AFB on Gibson
Blvd. SE in Albuquerque, New Mexico citizens will gather in protest of the
Washington administrations’ plans for a large conventional explosives test
called Divine Strake in Nevada, on June 23, which is to simulate a nuclear
attack on Iran with B-61 nuclear weapons. We will also call for our troops
to be returned from the colonial occupation of Iraq, and to return the
stolen lands of the Shoshone to their rightful ownership.
The U.S. Military tests are to be conducted on Shoshone lands against their
wishes. A large protest is planned in Nevada on May 28, also.
Hundreds of thousands of people have died in Iraq already and millions more
will die in Iran if President Bush uses B-61 nuclear bombs on Iran.
Pentagon war planners have been quoted in the Seymour Hersh article on the
impending attack on Iran that southern Iran will be lit up like a Christmas
tree when the bombs fall. Those not killed immediately from the blasts will
die from massive clouds of radioactive fallout which would make the bombing
of Hiroshima and Nagasaki seem like a picnic in comparison.
Crossing the threshold from large conventional explosives to small tactical
nuclear weapons has long been a goal of the founders of the New American
Century project. Crossing this line with a B-61 attack on Iran would push
the world into a new arms race to create new nuclear weapons and to also
militarize space as nations will move to protect themselves from future U.S.
Attacks, and to attack the U.S. homeland. American commando units have been
reported to be inside Iran now preparing for the attack and invasion. This
was the scenario used in the pre-invasion of Iraq.
Kirtland AFB and Sandia National Lab are key facilities of the U.S. military
infrastructure supporting the war in Iraq and preparing for a nuclear attack
on Iran. The cry for world peace demands that the citizens of our city and
country stand up against the preparations for permanent and global war, much
as the Nazis planned before World War II. History must not look back and
say the American people did not act to stop the profit driven corporations
and their war industry supporters from unleashing horrible death and
destruction on a planetary scale.
The B-61 variable yield nuclear weapon has been tested at the war base
complex in Albuquerque and approximately 685 B-61 nuclear bombs are stored
at the base. It is likely some of the B-61s at Kirtland AFB are being moved
to the war zone in preparation for the assault on Iran which many people
feel may come before the fall elections for Congress.
A new nuclear weapons and war coordinating center was just opened at the
base which is dangerous to the world and must be closed along with the
dismantling of all the weapons of mass destruction at KAFB. Kirtland AFB is
home to the world’s largest storage of weapons of mass destruction in the
world. As long as these weapons exist no one, not even us here, are safe.
The Albuquerque coalition is calling for an immediate and total ban on the
B-61 nuclear bomb. The weapons here must be dismantled, the new nuclear war
center opened at Kirtland AFB has to be closed and the indigenous lands to
the Shoshone people in Nevada returned and restored to its original
environmental condition and to pay reparations for past damages.
President Eisenhower warned the American people in 1961 as he left office
about the danger of the new military industrial complex. Eisenhower said
that creating a permanent state of war for profit and empire would destroy
our liberty and democracy and endanger the world. He was right. We see
that everyday now.
The newly released film Why We Fight documents President Eisenhower’s
prediction and shows how it works. The film will be shown again here in
Albuquerque at the Guild Theatre on Central Ave this Tue, Wed and Thur. May
23-25. We encourage all who can to see this important film.
In New Mexico we need to close the war base complex in Albuquerque before
their weapons of mass murder can be used to help Exxon, Mobile, Chevron,
Shell & BP gain control of more oil. The military-industrial complex
started here in New Mexico; we can end it here!
STOP THE DIVINE STRAKE! OUR EARTH IS AT STAKE!
