Call Congress to Stop Big Brother Surveillance TODAY

This is an Action Alert from the Bill of Rights Defense Committee:

Today please join the Bill of Rights Defense Committee and tens of thousands of allies throughout the U.S. in an overwhelming grassroots response to NSA warrantless surveillance and data mining of our telephone records. The BORDC, the ACLU, People For the American Way, and other organizations (see below) have declared this week “National Call-in to Congress Week” and are asking people to call their members of Congress on a specific day. Let’s keep those phones ringing in the Congressional halls all week long!

What to do:

Please phone each of your Senators, and your Representative:
* Call the Capitol switchboard at 202-224-3121 (24 hours) and ask the operator to connect you,
OR
* Use the BORDC call-in page to find your legislators’ phone numbers and to let us know how your calls went,
OR
* Call your legislators’ district offices. Find their phone numbers in your phone book or call your local library.

What to say:

A simple message is best. Choose one or two points from below or find other suggestions on our call-in page.

* Overburdening the FBI with thousands of false leads leaves them less time and fewer resources to go after the real terrorists.
* What’s needed is an immediate, full and unrestricted public investigation into the NSA spying program, including a probe into the massive database collecting Americans’ phone calls.

Can’t get through right away? Many people must be phoning Congress. Keep your calls coming! If you prefer not to wait, call the next day or phone the district office.

Find additional resources at the Bill of Rights Defense Committee web site.

Organizations supporting the call-in day (partial list) include the Alliance for Justice, American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee, American Civil Liberties Union, Bill of Rights Defense Committee, Council on American-Islamic Relations, Electronic Frontier Foundation, Electronic Privacy Information Center, First Amendment Foundation, Friends Committee on National Legislation, Liberty Coalition, National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, National Coalition Against Repressive Legislation, National Lawyers Guild, Patriots to Restore Checks and Balances, People For the American Way, Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism, Unitarian Universalist Association of Congregations, and United For Peace and Justice.

Don’t let up! Thanks for all you do.
