Autherine Lucy became the first black person to attend the University of Alabama on February 3rd. She was suspended on this day after three days of riots following her court-ordered enrollment. It is unclear why the University did not elect to suspend the rioters.

1961
The civil rights jail-in movement begins when students in Rock Hill, South Carolina are arrested & demand jail time rather than fines.
1985
The Molesworth Common Peace Camp was evicted by the British Army at a Royal Air Force base. The 300 inhabitants were nonviolently protesting the establishment of U.S. cruise missiles there. Peace camps were established at several locations in Europe in the early 1980’s to protest nuclear weapons.
