This seems to be the week for West Jordan news.
(Pretend that “Pachelbel’s Canon in D” is playing in the background….)
Tom and enjoy talking walks along the Jordan River, which is within walking distance of our home. The Jordan River Parkway stretches from Provo, Utah, to North Salt Lake. It is a beautiful parkway with lots of areas for picnics, fishing, boating, and observation of habitat. We have taken some really nice photos of plant and animal life there. The icon photo associated with this post was taken along the Jordan River Parkway.
(sound of music screeching to a halt like a record being scratched….)
Unfortunately, we also live near the sewage treatment plant. We always have to cross over the channel of water being dumped into the river of treated sewage.
Today’s Deseret News reports that West Jordan sets up fund to correct sewage problem
Now, this is not directly related to my account above, but it reminded me of what we encounter on our “nature” walks.
The article is about some residential properties that had been unknowingly dumping raw sewage into the rive for 20 years (I’m thinking: How could this not have been detected for that long?). This was apparently caused by the mistakes of two developers who are now out of business (of course), which constructed the pipelines to an underground main meant to drain off excess groundwater rather than the sewage main. The city has approved measures to correct the problem. It will pay for the corrections since the developers are out of business.
The council voted 6-1 in favor of this. The dissenting vote was cast by Councilman Rob Bennett, who is “opposed not because he didn’t want to help the affected residents but because he didn’t want to set a precedent of the city taking on the role of an insurance company.”
Well, if there is a problem that needs to be corrected by our city, it is incumbent upon our elected officials to fix it. I was happy to see this (finally) being addressed.
(Now, back to Pachelbel……)
