Stardust probe lands in Utah’s west desert

Yesterday Tom and I were discussing the Stardust probe and wishing we could be in the moonlit desert overnight to witness its landing in Utah, after its 7 year journey. This morning’s Salt Lake Tribune reports that it landed around 3am at the U.S. Air Force Utah Test and Training Range in Utah’s west desert.

During its journey, the probe collected debris from space.
A cannister within the return probe holds the tiny comet pieces, which scientists hope will help answer questions about the earliest days of our solar system.
