1859
American feminist Carrie Chapman Catt, pacifist & suffragist, co-founder of Women’s Peace Party & League of Women Voters, is born.

1939
Southern Tenant Farmers’ Union lead Missouri Highway sit-down of 1,700 tenant families.

1987
The White House released the finding – signed by President Reagan on January 17, 1986 – which authorized the sale of arms to Iran and ordered the CIA to not tell Congress.

1991
Ten peace activists were arrested at Fort McCoy, Wisconsin for handing out written warnings to military reservists about participation in war crimes the day after the start of the U.S. bombing of the Persian Gulf. Long time peace activist Sam Day was imprisoned for 4 months for his participation.
