Yesterday I learned from a fellow activist at Southern Utah Wilderness Association (SUWA)
that the Senate approved a defense will that will designate 100,000 Acres as Wilderness.
This is the first wilderness bill that is specifically Utah designated that Congress has passed in over 20 years. The bill also has a provision to prohibit oil drilling in the Arctic Refuge.
This will essentially block Private Fuel Storage (PFS) from building a railroad into its facility to store nuclear waste.
It’s now making some sense as to why PFS investors may be pulling out at this time. The whole PFS plan appears to be falling apart.
Yet another article in today’s Deseret News announces the possibility of a renewed commitment by PFS investors as a result of opposition to Yucca Mountain and efforts aimed at keeping waste stored at commerical power plants.
