Hammer to Head: “Here’s some sense for christmas”

It seems that’s what’s happened with our Utah senators.

Last week I wrote about Utah’s Represenatives voting for a $230 million tax cut.

Today’s Salt Lake Tribune has reported that our state senators are carefully examining the proposed tax cut, stating that they are listening to their consituents who are angry over such a cut.

It’s about time.

No details have been provided about where this supposed surplus would come from, who it would benefit, or if it would continue. Constitunets have been contacting their senators with statements like, If you cut taxes, just make sure I have a freeway to drive on.

Well, that’s a step in the right direction. Our elected represenatives do need to examine the issue of dissemination of surplus funds. Consituents need to make noise about it and make sure they are heard. While at this point in time freeways are still needed, there are so many other efforts that need to benefit from such surplus as well such as domestic violence and head start programs, healthcare for the poor, and mass transportation, to name a few.
