1946
UNICEF was established.


1961
President Kennedy ordered 425 helicopter and ground crewmen to South Vietnam along with 33 Shawnee helicopters. This was the first large force of U.S. military personnel sent to Vietnam, bolstering the small number of U.S. advisors in the country since the late 1950s.
Their assignment was to airlift South Vietnamese Army troops into combat.

1972
New Zealand prime Minister Kirk announced withdrawal of his country’s troops from Vietnam & phase out of the draft. 3890 New Zealand military personnel had served, 37 were killed and 187 wounded. This gave rise to a large and vocal anti-war movement.
