It’s funny how clearly we remember some things while other memories remain distant and vague.
I remember exactly where I was and who told me that John Lennon had been killed on December 8, 1980.

I was a senior in college and had just returned from the day’s classes to my on-campus house that I shared with 7 other women. One of my housemates, Nancy, met me as I entered the house with sadness in her face and simply stated “John Lennon is dead”. I then learned of the circumstances surrounding his death and for the next few days was in shock. Lennon, of course, had been one of my musical idols. Today I use a lyrics line of his in my email signatures:
“Life is what happens while you are making other plans.”
John Lennon is not only remembered for his fame with The Beatles, his magical lyrics and prolific songwriting, but also for his quest to achieve world peace through a variety of means. While world peace was not achieved during his life, the impact of his work was great and lives on. Lennon was successful, through is efforts, in educating the globe’s citizens to the idea of world peace.
Also ironic and magical is how Tom, the love of my life, shares the same birthday with Lennon and, in fact, it was the quote I use along with my signature that initially brought is together.
The world remembered Lennon yesterday with many vigils and tributes.
