I was very, very sad to learn today of the retirement of Ken Sain’s blog. I will post Ken’s entire message here because won’t be up much longer:
I did talk to my new employers about my blog and my gay movie review site. I always knew that this day may come, and it is finally here.
The Gazette is owned by the Washington Post, although they are very independent from it. In fact, we consider the Post competition.
But one of the conditions of my employment is that I have to shut down this blog. The conflict of interest is more perception than reality. As the arts and entertainment editor I will have little influence on political coverage. But, the perception — as Michael Petrelis will no doubt point out — is still there.
So this blog comes to an end this weekend.
My goal with this blog was to provide independent coverage of the Green Party, because that was something that was missing. Mainstream media ignores the party and the official party releases aren’t going to deal with the internal conflicts. I think the fact that this blog has found some success shows that there is a need for this type of blog.
Now it will be up to others to step up and fill the void the closing of this blog will create.

(Irish brogue) Ah, say it’isn’t so, me Kenny!
🙂
But, then again, perhaps the gods were trying to send you a message when your friend earlier pulled the plug on the blog.
But regardless, please rest assured that you’ll be missed.

Ken, how would your employers feel if you continued to post over at Chlorophyll?
Either way, we’ll miss this blog in a big way.

Thanks for your groundbreaking efforts, Ken. In addition to the news and the discussion, you’ve also had the best links. Hopefully some of the other blogs will copy those before the weekend.

This is a terrible loss for Greens and newspeople both. Will you keep the archives available on line for people to use for research purposes? If not, could copies be made available on CD for historical purposes? This blog was, bar none, the best blog out there on US Green Party politics. It would be absolutely awful to lose the content forever. Historians, authors, curious Greens, people interested in gay politics and issues….
Don’t flush it. It’s a lot of good work that should be saved.

Kenny,
Please consider finding a worthy replacement for your blog. Or have someone continue the format, url, content etc. At least for the Green Party posts. Your coverage is independent, timely, well balanced, and informative. Please don’t leave it to the wind for someone to step up.
Be proactive and find someone. Thanks for your labour and love.

[…] In a bit of really unfortunate news, today Ken has been forced to shut down his blog as a condition of his new job. He will be greatly missed as there was no finer independent source of Green Party news out there. […]

Oh no. This almost made me cry! I love your blog and refer to it several times a day. I will miss you very much, Ken! Is there any other way for you to continue your blogging on the Greens? **Any** way?
You have been very inspirational to me with regards to my own blogging. Thank you for being here and please keep in touch.
Deanna
