Green Party of Utah Member Hosting Radio Show Monday

Please tune into Radioactive tomorrow – KRCL Radio, 90.9 FM. Elisabeth Luntz, Green Party of Utah Member and GPUS Delegate, will be speaking to Robert Dreyfuss, CIA analyst that wrote “Devil’s Game How the US helped unleash fundamental Islam.”

Elisabeth says:

This is important to consider at this time because with power vacuums with Israeli withdrawals, we could simultaneously experience the rise of fundamentalism in regions like GAZA. Something to be aware of. Once the US exploits the fundamentalists in repressing the left, it is difficult to put the genie back in the bottle. We will look at the social utility of religion and use the Christian right in the US as an example as well as the propaganda techniques of George Bush’s administration to push for more institutionalized religion, less science, more faith, less information.

Dreyfuss’ book describes how Hamas was created by the Isreali’s to combat more moderate voices in Israeli politics.

Elisabeth says: We supported the Taliban’s rise to power, with CIA funded school books in Afghanistan as well as CIA distributed Korans. Supported the rise of fundamentalism to combat cold war communism and other left or nationalist or secular organizations like the Palestinian Liberation Organization, for instance. In Iran, in Egypt (home of the Muslim Brotherhood who assassinated Sadat and threaten Mubarik) , same patterns. And of course, today in Iraq, we see the rise of fundamentalism in the Iraq government aligned with the Shiite factions of Iran. Neocons don’t stop there, they want Syria, and Saudi Arabia too and are willing to let the Islamists rise to power and then perhaps wrestle Saudi Arabia from the Fundamentalists.

While sometimes the US has fought against Islamic fundy parties like in Algeria although they won the democratic election, US policy on combating fundamentalist Islam is virtually non-existent.
