Buy Local First Campaign

Nov. 12-Dec. 31, 2005: Buy Local, Organic, and Fair Made–Boycott Wal-Mart and the Chains. You can sign the pledge at: Organic Consumers.

A new program called Buy Local First has begun. It was started by the Utah Vest Pocket Business Coalition, a group of Utah busienss owners. Business members of the Buy Local First Campaign total more than 300. It’s free to join and it promotes a healthy community by advocating for consumers to spend their money in their local communities.

My friend has an activist retail shop that is part of this network.

Tom and I have a 501(c)(3) organization called Blue Sky Institute which has an arm on local consumerism. We had attempted to start a “Green Values Program” a few years ago but did not have the resources to continue it. We are happy to see that such a program has been initiated and implemented here in Utah.

The more of us that push this concept and educate people on why it is not a good idea to shop at the large corporations, the more likely there will be a paradigm shift back to the concept of local, community based economics.

I keep repeating this, but it needs to be repeated: Sometimes Davey wins……Eventually Davey will win.
